lots of questions on my 150 merc

i have a 150 hp black max. i have no idea what year it is and i need to find a lower unit for it. there is currently no lower unit on it, didn't come with it. i found a serial number 6424412. not sure if it helps. Also wanted to know if i could run the motor without the lower unit on it. I wouldn't think it would hurt it, seeing how the water pickup would be off. ??? thanks for the help!

Any V-6 lower unit from 1981-2000 with 2.1 gear ratio

Yes, but install a garden hose to water supply tube so the block does not overheat....

thank you so much for the info! I have been stressed out trying to find the information on this motor. are these black max motors a good motor? if something should happen to it, is it worth rebuilding?

Engine serial number 06424412 comes up as a 1983 MERCURY 2.0L 150 ELPT, Model No: 1150623.

You would be able to find most of your information in the link below, But the information I provided should be 100% accurate, Because that is what Mercury marine has listed under your engine serial number.

Going by the (ELPT) I posted your shaft length is considered a LONG SHAFT (20")

(E) stands for, ELECTRIC START
(L) stands for, LONG SHAFT (20")
(PT) stands for, POWER TRIM

This is an engine forum, not a library.
Props are a whole subject to themselves. The answer to each of your questions is "depends on.......". Maybe that's why there's a prop forum on iBoats.
