Loud chatter and knock when turning!! Driveshaft problems???

Ive never had one apart so thats why im on here asking. My boat runs great and very smooth when on plane and running straight, but when i turn i get a loud chatter or knock. It also starts to do it when i start trimming up to high. Im assuming that it might be a driveshaft or something in the lower unit. Has anyone ever heard of this problem? Is there a CV joint or some sort of universal joint that could be going out? How in depth of a procedure is it to get in there and fix it?

Its a 1998 4.3 liter mercruiser with an alpha one outdrive. Is this a common problem and how easy is it to fix? Dont really want to take it to a dealership because i can fix just about anything, but im aslo smart enough to know not to dive into something that ive never had apart without doing a little reasearch first
