Re: louisana members .gustav damage?

Hi y'all. Got home Monday night. Been running the house on the generator until about an hour ago, when commercial power was restored. I had internet briefly this morning (just about long enough to get some banking done) but it quit until sometime this afternoon.

No flooding here and minimal wind damage. I have some tree limbs down and smaller branches all over the yard. Also have some computer damage from the stuff bouncing around in the car for several days. The most annoying is that my main monitor (24" Dell) has two "dings" in the screen, even though it was packed with a heavy cardboard cover over the face of the monitor. My scanner/copier/printer doesn't seem to want to work either - won't even turn on.

About the worst part of this one for folks in my area, is the money spent. Its annoying - you know you have to go, but when you get home and start adding things up, it just seems like a complete waste of funds.

Oh well ... it is what it is ... time to get ready to bail out again for Ike!

Nothing major here in the Slidell area. Ran off the generator from Monday morning till Wednesday night. A few tree limbs down, water is a little high in the bayous but no flooding anywhere that I know of. Missed boating this weekend cause wife's schoolroom had a leak in the roof and she spent all day getting it ready for when school starts again tomorrow.

I got some wind damage. Storm pushed two large windows in about a 1/4" into my house. I will need to replace windows, drywall and stucco. Lost power for only two days. My mom still has no power in Lafourche Parish but they are getting close to restoring it.

Everything is doing fine in the LGD. Scariest part of the storm was Sunday evening around 5PM. We were sitting on the front porch enjoying a calm evening until dark clouds showed up on the horizon. All of a sudden the squall line was on top of us, probably a 40mph gust and the power lines popped and lights went out. I have never experienced anything like it, the squall was so fast and so powerful.

This was followed by the most amazing thing I saw during the storm, about an hour later truck were out fixing the lines. Unreal, a hurricane was coming and here was Entergy fixing lines.

We lost power about 6AM monday, about 4 PM we were getting the genset ready to go. Spent about an hour unpacking and running ext. cords and what not. Can you believe as I was bending down to pull the starter rope, the lights came on. I am not complaining at all, lights out for 11 hrs... thumbs up to the line crews.

My sister is a much better writer than I and she sums up the experience

Good luck to all and stay safe.

One last thing,

WHO DAT!!!!!!!!

All we got here in shreveport was lite wind and rain.Took the family fishing that weekend in Natchitoches at Sibly lake. The fishing wasn't that good till sunday. Filled both live wells then went home that night, hated to go. We got a lot of people from New Orleans up here as i'm sure most of yall saw on Niteline, complaining about the shelters and how bad they were and it's true it was bad, but it's a shelter not the Hilton. The one thing i'd like to know is how can you leave home with out food and dippers for your kids but remeber to bring money for beer ? Sorry had to rant some forgive me.Hey we eat bugs out of the ditches down here Gustav just cooled the summer down a bit.
