I have a 1973 115hp inline 6 with 3 carps. I would like to know the proper way to increase the idle. It runs great, starts great, and runs at full throttle great. But, when running at low RPM in gear it will quit. or when you drop it into gear, it will quit running. So you have to be quick on the throttle to keep it running.

Serial number for my motor is 3505081. 1973 inline 6, 3 carbs.

Any help would be really great. Thanks!

There is an idle adjustment screw on the front of the vertical support that holds the distributor mechanism. It is clearly marked as "idle speed". Your idle should be set with your engine in gear, in the water and typically will be 500 to 600 RPM depending on your prop. In neutral it should be no more than 1000, 800 is preferable.

Any chance of a picture of this as I have looked everwhere for a screw setting on the distributor. But I haven't found one.

TR, As you turn the idle stop screw in the motor should speed up. Eventually you will not be able to turn it as the throttle cable will stop you. You may need to adjust the throttle cable barrel nut.
