Has anybody had problems with oil alarms especially in colder weather? I was using the evinrude hd-50 oil and had constant alarms in colder weather, after the engine warmed the alarm would stop. I went to my local mech. and he said to try the hd-100 mixed with the hd-50 but sill had problems. Then went to straight hd-100 still alarming inthe cold. Or should i not worry about this? Any suggestions would be apreciated.

An alarm is an alarm. Something is wrong. I think Evinrude has a service or tech bulletin regarding oil alarms in cold weather.

A few years ago Bombardier had a problem with their XD100 oil only. It was new at the time, when the ETEC engines just came out. They found the XD100 oil blend was not correct and at very low temps, it would not flow properly and would cause alarms. When heated up, it would work fine. They never recalled that original oil, but reformulated it and relabeled all the new bottles to say something like "winterization formula". I've not heard of any problems with their XD50 oil.

You should be using xd100 in cold weather, but back in the early years the oil alarm was over senative. If the xd100 does work you will need to replace the oil pump assy. The new style works different to help with giving false codes.

You have an early production motor and there have been several software updates to the engine computer and some have improved the NO OIL alarm system, as someone already posted here. See your dealer about the easy to install software updates.

It is mandatory to use XD-100 oil in cold weather. Also make sure your thermostat and pressure relief valve are in good shape so that the motor idles at about 160?.
