Low oil alarm/monitor on different Mercs question.

I?m looking at a new motor for my Pontoon. It would appear that a '99 60HP Bigfoot does plug into my existing harness. It was taken for a test run and all checked out OK. ( and I talked the guy way down in price)

I was told on another thread that my old ?87 115hp I-6 merc had a separate oil mixing unit which was in the boat. That would explain why there was a wire harness coming out of the old motor, and just lying there, where the gas tanks are.

The new(er) motor has the oil tank inside it. So, since the wire harness plugs are the same, I was wondering if anyone knows if the original 1987 115 merc would have also had an oil warning signal in its wire harness?

I did notice that the dash has an oil gauge on it which I though was strange, perhaps that is the oil warning system, and was disabled when the remote oil mixing unit was removed.

I don?t want to buy a manual for this old 115, as it is being scraped ( I will get one for the new motor).

Anyone know the answer, or how I can figure it out. ( IE pins a and B on the wire harness connect to a buzzer in the control box ( or gauge), if it was wired).

Definitely don?t want to run out of oil!

Thanks

Ok, I just got the manual for the new 60HP, it has a buzzer for overheat or low oil warning. It said the alarm is hanging off the igntion key. I'll check if there is one when I get the boat back. So, If there is a buzzer, can I assume it will be wired. Anyone know how I could simulate low oil to check this? ( how does the sensor work,)

Thanks.

Not sure if they are all the same but on my 95 the oil warning/overheat is the tan wire in the wire harness. It goes to a beeper in the controller. Ground the tan wire and it beeps. The engine has all the sensors for overheat and oil that set off the warning beep, that is ground the tan wire.

They are the same alarm module and use the same horn near the controls/ignition switch.
To test the module and horn. Key ON, motor NOT running(safer this way)
The alarm module at the motor uses a tan wire for the temp sensor, a pair of blue wires to an oil level switch under the stbd side of the oil tank. Unplug the two blue wires from under that oil tank and connect the two female connectors/wires from the harness with a jumper, this should set of the oil alarm (rapid beep beep beep),
grounding the tan wire should give a continuous (beeeeeeeeeeeeep)

I have a 2002 Merc 125
When I first turn the key on, it beeps once.
I was told that's the system check to make sure the alarms are working

I finally got the boat back, and when I opened up the helm, I saw there is a buzzer so that means that there was wiring already, just now need to see if it was just disconnected.
