So my buddy invites my family to their cottage on the lake a few times a year and this time he suggested I bring the fishing boat as there is awesome fishing on that lake. I oblige and the girls all leave a day early as the boys have to work. We finally get on the road about 3pm Friday and he's pulling my boat, no issues. We decide to hit the launch first and plop the boat in the water, and no, I did NOT forget the plug.

Engine fires up and we load the stuff from the truck into the boat (very small launch and it's deserted.) He takes off and so do I. Throttle the boat up and it starts revving, churning water but I'm not going very far. Can't figure it out. I decide I've spun the prop between home and here and sat there idling, forlorn. Popped it in gear at idle and again, churning but no real movement. Decide to take a look over the stern and what do I see?

Left the Happy Troller down. :p In case anyone wonders if those things will slow the boat down the answer is "YES." Whoops. Rest of the trip was great.

Nope, the trolling motor was up, but this was down.... I only really lower it to trailer since it sticks way out when the motor is tilted up. Probably will just take it off as I never use it since I have a nice Minn Kota bow-mount setup...

Now that is funny! I can say that as I did the same thing on Memorial Day. It really does slow the boat down.

Them things work!! I had one on a 65hp Merc and it would not pick up rpms with it down, but great for trolling!
