I have a 2004 yamaha f60 on a yamaha G3 boat 17ft, and the rpms top out at 5000. I understand it should be around 5500-5600. The boat weighs 1150 lbs. Is this thing set only at 5000 rpms because of the weight? Or should I do something to get higher rpms. I figured since G3 is a yamaha boat company they know what they're doing. But I also know from boat tests on they're web site that the extra 5 to 6 hundred rpms can get an extra 5 miles in speed. Since I'm only going 29 mph tops that's a big difference

Re: low rpm f60

1) Check engine height - AV plate flush to an inch or so above the keel. 2) Are you trimming properly 3) Is the engine running properly? 4) What prop are you running (pitch). We are clueless without some numbers. Yamaha's web site lists the prop diameter and pitch, engine mouting position, and other test conditions. Check it out and compare with what you have. Then post back.
