I need some assistance. I have a 1987 60 Horse OB. Today, I was cruising along at WOT (for about 5 minutes) when the warning alarm sounded. I turned off the engine immediately - checked everything out - then re-started. However, I was only able to achieve about 3,000 RPM'S. I could take the boat out of gear and just throttle it and achieve 5,500 RPM's. However, in gear, it will only get 3,000. Any ideas on what could cause this. Compression is very good.
Could it be a spark plug, or coil that is overheating? Or do I have a more serious problem? Any assistance or ideas will be appreciated. I am not sure why the warning alarm sounded.
