low transom bay worthy?

i have a 14 foot lowe boat with i believe is 30 plus inch sides but a 16 inch transom is this considered bay worthy and if not are ther any product made for this to help keep out water other than putting in new transom thanks

I had this problem with my 14 ft boat. It was fine running wide open but at idle the slightest wave would come in the back of the boat. The solution that I came to was to build a splashwell infront of the transom. I would post some pictures for you but I have since gotten a pontoon boat and havnt gotten to it yet. If you are handy with fiberglass it should be fairly easy to build. Just do a search on the forum and Im sure you could find some pictures to get started in the right direction.

I started out bay fishing in a 14` low transom aluminum and had similar problems especially when the wind came up and I had to run in a following sea with 3 ft whitecaps. Needless to say I had some awfully scary moments while surfing those rollers......thank got I had a reliable motor and was able to adjust my speeds accordingly. I made a splashwell and got more confident but was always frightened that water would get under the powerhead cover and stall out the motor. After a few good scares I sold boat and motor and went to a heavier, deeper fiberglass with a long shaft. I have seen guys with your type of boat who filled in the transom and went to 20 inch long shafts no problem.

I have a 13'4" Whaler. My solution was to remove my outboard, screw and caulk a sheet of marine aluminum over the low area. I then made a jacking mount to bolt my engine on. This has allowed me to fine tune the height of the engine along with moving it back 4". New boat in performance along with keeping the water out.
