Low Voltage at the Ignition switch

i'm wiring in new switches on my 84 century i/o. i disconected all on the switches and now my 12v battery wire is only reading 5.7 volts.
this is the main 12v wire coming up to the dash from the battery. battery test fine at 12.7 volts.
I rewired a 17 foot outboared a few years ago, so I thought I'd be ok with this one. thanks...

Maybe its time to pull a new wire to the dash.

I was hoping to get back and delete this thread before anyone saw it.
I never claimed to be the smartest guy in the world. The Neg. Batt cable was loose on the battery terminal. Ouch.
