low water pressure alarm

I'm wondering if anyone knows where to buy the parts necessary for a water pressure alarm. My 85 50 hp Merc, s/n 7007633 has a pipe plug on the powerhead between the spark plugs that I could use for source pressure. I'm not really keen on a gauge as how often does one check it, I'd much rather a buzzer on the dash.

Does this exist commercially or has anyone found electrical/pressure buzzers? As well, any idea what the engine should have for minimum water pressure?

Thanks!

I have never heard of an alarm mercury does make a water pressure gauge that work off that fitting and is dash mounted water pressure varies at RPM and engine type

dave, I don't think a low pressure alarm will work well for you. The water pressure varies so much through all rpm ranges and for different engines and types of water pumps. So the guage would be the best route and knowing what the proper pressures should be for your engine.

Let's say that you did have some type of alarm set to go off at pressures below 5psi. In that case you would hear it every time the engine was started for up to 10-15 seconds until the water fully engulfed the cooling jackets and block.

I could get around that with a simple switch for the alarm buzzer (I know it might sound silly, but I really would like to find a cheap way to provide some peace of mind against cooling failure)

Thanks!
