I have a 70 hp evinrude, I think it is an '88 model. I have low water pressure and have had a water pump and impeller installed. Water pressure is still low. I have checked the thermostat, head cover and the exhaust cover for build up.

1. The spring is broken in 2 locations on the thermostat.
2. The head had only mild build up.
3. I broke off 3 bolts in the exhast head and have broken an ease out in one of them.

Will the thermostat spring being broken cause low water pressure?

How do I get these bolts out? Can I use sleeves once they are out if the threads are messed up?

Please help!!

Unless you are REAL handy, I'd let a machine shop get the bolts out and the easy out.

Or, you can pick up a cylinder head from these guys, relatively cheap.

www.twincityoutboard.com

The broken spring would allow the stat. to remain open. Not the cause of low pressure.

I don't know who replaced the water pump, but be aware there was an updated kit. from OMC, for the triple cylinder "loopers" like yours.

If you did not get a genuine OMC/Bombi kit, you may have the old style pump.

Also, realize that water pressure is relative. It depends on where/how the pressure guage was plumbed in.

As long as you have no overheat and the pressure remains constant, you have no issue. The issue arises when you see a change.
