As far as the poppet valve location ***
It's located on the side below the switch boxes follow the hose from the middle of the top of the block that goes down below the switch boxes. In order to get at it you will need to split the lower pan 5 or 6 bolts. After that there should be no problem getting to the bolts that hold the poppet valve.

You might also want to consider getting Mercury's book on the engine.

RFish >()> ;)

Re: Low water pressure and Over Heat Warning

Ok guys, thanks for all the help!!!!!!!

It was the relief valve stuck open. At higher throttle it was pulling in enough water that it flooded the block enough to work as normal. But at low throttle settings it wasn't enough to keep up with the water that was being dumped by the relief valve. Hope this helps someone else!

Again, thanks a lot everyone! I will probably be a regular on here now so see all of you around! HaHaHaHa

e.wallace did you notice anything that didn't look right with the old poppet valve when you took it out.how did you test it after on the water or with hose?

I just looked it over and made sure it was sealing and not stuck. The problem is, it was stuck open so I replaced it.

Re: Low water pressure and Over Heat Warning

The poppet valve seats into a grommet type thing that is fixed to the block. It's possible the grommet shrinks or warps some and won't let the poppet slide back into it when the pressure is low.
