Re: lower end gear oil

You can get the oil from your local dealer and also get the seals for the vent & fill screws.
You do drain and fill from the bottom. This helps keep air out of the oil. just place the end of the tube in the fill hole and squeeze the oil in. when it comes out the top its full. Just let it sit for a 1/2 hr. to let air bubbles to work there way out. Then top it off. Your done, Its that easy.

Hi , Make sure that it is the drain plug that you are opening on your lower unit if it is 70hp and up ,the drain plug is on the underside of the gear torpedo just in front of skeg ,There is a screw on the side below the fill /vent holes that can easily be mistaken for the drain ,removing this screw will turn a simple job into a nightmare, as previous reply states the reason for filling from the bottom is to purge air. The vent and drain plugs are the same, dime sized flat head screws. The one you don't want to remove is a smaller eraser head sized screw that is a rounded slot screw. Remove the two that look the same, if that is easier.

Re: lower end gear oil

ok thnks

so to make my confussion clear

FILL - is on the bottom where to fill the oil

VENT / DRAIN - has to be taken out while filling it with oil

so you can do this while the motor is in the standing position, no reason to put it upside down or tili it.

am i clear on this

if it is THANKS A LOT TO ALL THE HELP.
