First bought a hammer impact driver from Sears in the early 80s to remove the side covers on my motorcycle. Never even crossed my mind to tighten those screws back up with the same tool. And I was even more of a moron in my youth than I am today.
Just sayin’

To each his own. I for one, do not want the gearcase plugs leaking or unscrewing, while I am cruising along.
I never measured it but the sealing washers in rubber or fiber are compressed at time of installation. That compression easily acts as a "lock washer" to hold the screw in place.
