Lower End Oil Level

Is it normal to drop about 1/2 " after a few hours of running after fluid was changed? I have a 5.0L alpha 1 Gen 2 with a oil bottle.

The marina I bought the oil to top it up today said that it was normal. It took several hours of running for the level to drop. The boat is trailered and sits in the lower position in the driveway and there is no indication of any leaks. I checked the bottom drain screw and the oil looks very good with no sign of water in it.

Just looking for a 2nd opinion.

I think that's fairly normal. Filling the drive, you may get an air bubble or two in the works, which get burped out as you run, causing the level in the bottle to drop. As long as your lower unit lube was just replaced, I wouldn't worrry about it unless it keeps happening.

Thanks - I put a couple of more hours on it today and the level did not change.

Good deal. Sounds like you're good to go. Just keep an eye on the bottle, which we should be doing anyway.
