Hi, I'm rebuilding my lower end, I just received all the parts. My question is do I need or am I supposed to have 2 of the retainers (see attached) or do I only need one? I have read that one is required per assembly. I only have one and can't remember if there were 2? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Should have two and make sure you have it shimmed or you will be replacing gears

FYI...you cannot take new parts and put in old housing using same shims. You will need to: A) Buy a shim gauge tool or B) take to a dealer that has tool and pay them to set pinion height. ( this is cheapest and best)

I have all new parts, just missing the once piece, and I'm not entirely sure it had 2 of them I can't remember

Update, found it! Yes I know about the shims, I have the proper gauge and an assortment of shims, thank you for the information though. I am still new at this, but with manuals and diagrams and this forum I feel confident lol. We'll I hope. Rebuild kit was $800. I don't wanna mess this up

Do you have the pinion tool or just the gauge? Will will need the tool below or your $800 will be spent for nothing.
