lower gear oil '64 Speeditwin 28hp

I have a 64 speeditwin 28hp and I just rebuilt the lower gear assembly, but I need to know how much oil it takes approx. I put a bottle nipple on the bottom drain hole and took off the top one and squeezed the bottle until it started coming out the top. The problem is (maybe it is not a problem), that it seems to be too little, maybe a cup or two, how much should there be??

When the oil comes out the top (vent) replace the screw and then replace the bottom screw and you're good to go. New washers are recommended too.

My book says the 28hp's should take 13.0 ounces in the lower unit.
