I'm trying to remove the gimble ring from transom assembly on a
1987 Alpha 1.

I'm having trouble with the lower hinge pin that allows the left and right movement. I have removed the cotter pin but this thing won't budge.

Is this pin thredded or just pressed in?

Looking at part# 15 in this link.

Thanks,
Aaron

Pressed in, that is to say no threads.....
It just fits in snugly, & is stuck with corrosion......
I'd soak it in kroil & then maybe use some heat.....;)
Easy does it....
Don't go bashing on it, or you will crack the gimbal housing & will be replacing that as well.....

Thanks for the reply.

What is the correct tool to use ?
One of my employees has a ball joint press. Or should I use a hammer?

Well, I would try some Kroil & let it soak, then some heat & see if you can turn it with a big screwdriver in the slot on the bottom.....
I'd try to press it out if you can get the tool on it......
Like I said, go easy....
It is not hard to break cast metal when you beat on it, esp. in Michigan in the winter!.....;)

I appreciate your help.

With a little heat and some carfull work with an air hammer it came right out.
