Hi, was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a 1973 65hp Johnston id numbers is 65ESL73R
My problem is this I went out fishing over the past weekend and noticed that my engine was moving with the current (backwards and forwards) when I got in I found that I could move the lower part of the engine (leg) it seems to be around the bottom engine mounts but they seem ok I will need to look at it closer though. Below is a pic I took of where it is moving I hope someone can help me out. I have been to a ob mechanic and he said that It might be a nylon collar? or the lower engine mounts.

Without being there I'd say your ob mechanic is correct.

ok so now I have 2 very real possibilities what's the best way to go about removing that section and replacing either the thrust collar or the nylon grommet?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I guess if it were me I would pull the lower mount side covers and check and see if the mounts and bumper are in good shape. I don't see a nylon bushing on the lower end, just the top.

I got the cover plate on the sides off and got 2 bolts out of the bracket and broke 2 (worse luck) they were forzen in, the collar wont move at all so I tried to undo the the 2 bolts that hold the lower engine mount on they also broke but still nothing happens. the collao is in 1 peiece not 2

Any ideas on what to do now? I am really stumped any advice or help would be appreciated

cheers

*** update*** I actually took the boat to the mechanic today, he had one look at it seen what the problem is and then told me how to fix it :)

It seems that there is a shaft comming down from the top of the motor and connects with the lower part, well this shaft has vanished rusted away, so now it looks like I have to find a mid section to rectify the problem, not sure if there is "shaft" for sale anywhere or can be replaced this shaft was made out of mild steel apprently from the factory.

He has suggested that I find a mid section for a 3 cylinder engine up to the 80's take of my power plant and gear box and tilt system and put it all on the "new" mis section heres hoping I can find one in Aus.

thanks for the replies so far
