lower rpm at WOT

A few weeks ago I replaced the stator, plugs and leads in my Mariner V6 150hp 1986 vintage. I only had the opportunity to take the boat out the other day and it was low on revs (4200rpm) at WOT as compared to over 5000rpm which is what she used to pull. I have a keel protector fitted to the hull and I noticed after the days outing that a portion of the middle section of the keel protector has come away. Would this create sufficient drag as to prevent the engine to spin out to over 5000rpm at WOT.<br /><br />Thanks to all respondants.

G'Day, Stocky.<br /><br />I doubt that a peeling keelguard would slow you down that much, but I guess it is possible. Fix that (repair or remove) and try her again.<br /><br />I think your trouble is most likely a dropped cylinder. Do a search for power loss at WOT and go from there.<br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks JB, I have also noticed some of the gelcoat has come away from the keel about 4" x 1". Looks like some hull repairs and possibly fault finding with the old lump of iron at the rear.
