Hi I am trying to find the correct replacement cable for a 1986 170
s/n. A528453 goes from the linlage to the outdrive. have tried our host listings. and found too many different choice length items. Is there a stock replacement number that can be crossed over for after market? or do I need to remove and measure what I have. and is it advised to tie a pull string to the old cable for reinstallation of new one? looks kinda tight down there.. thanks Rich W.

thanks for the hook-up. the confusion continued due to lack of experience. even the listing provided left me puzzled. as to the specific use of each product. I have turned the wrench many o times. but the cable description was lost to me for some reason. Thanks for the asst. going to go order it now.:)

Don't worry, I have over 20 years playing with these things and the shift cable kits on iBoats had ME confused....

I checked, and the shift cable, shift cable bellows and bell housing gasket are the same for the pre-alphas, Alphas and Gen IIs. Both the first 2 kits in the listing are the same, just one is GLM and the other is Sierra (for half the price). Both kits will do All Alpha style drives, including Gen II.

Chris.......

Edit: It looks like you're getting more parts in the GLM kit (and for double the price :eek: I would expect to), but all they have done is list all the parts of the shift cable assembly. That includes:

(1) 18-2158 Shift Cable Assembly - replaces O.E. # 73723A1
(1) 18-2162 Shift Slide & Screw - replaces O.E. # 33981T
(1) 18-2149 Shift Cable End Kit - replaces O.E. # 43433
(1) 18-2163 Shift Slide Screw - replaces O.E. # 10-31700

All of these parts are included in the Sierra kit under the one part:

(1) 18-2190 Shift Cable Assembly - replaces O.E. # 19543A4

The GLM kit also list 3 bell housing gaskets!! Don't know why, you only need one, the latest. It will back fit all other Alpha drives.
