Re: Lower Shift Rod Seal Replacement 89 Force 50
Well I got that changed and it can be done with out taking the rod out. I put a small pilot hole in top of the seal on the metal back area. I ran a sheet metal screw down a few threads into the seal and then used a small slide hammer to gently pop it out with a few light bumps. Came right out no problem. I shop vac the area prior to pulling the seal to insure no chips/dirt got into the LU. Cleaned it all up and put a little grease around the inside diameter of the seal and ran it down the rod with the metal side up. Taped it in with a socket until flush.
The old seal was swelled up so tight it was hard to shift and with the combination of the bushing missing on the shift rod near the carb, it was jumping out of gear now and then. Now it's all tight and ready to go!
