Any tricks I should be aware of before I replace shaft seal and o ring. Any special tools needed. Have soloc manual , it does not explain procedure but has expanded view. Any help would be great, thanks in advance. Jon

Re: lower sx 1996 drive prop shaft leak

You need a special tool (with 3 fingers) to unscrew the bearing housing(hub). If you try to do it with ordinary tools, you will damage the hub, since it takes quite an amount of torque to release it. It can be purchased at a Volvo dealer, I think, but I made one myself, not that difficult.

You also need a tool to insert the new prop shaft seal. The hub is quite deep, so trying to insert it with standard tools, will go wrong. I also made this tool myself, but can surely be obtained at a Volvo dealer.

Before you unscrew the hub, there are two small screws that must be removed. One is in the exhaust channel, with a small clamp, the other one is an Allen screw without head, which is found on the Port side of the stern drive housing, near the propeller.
