Now im tring to put it back to on the motor assemble and can not for the life of me align the Shifting linkage. Anyone have a trick to get this thing aligned up so i can bolt it back together.

Thanks

Quick add can some one tell me how to align the Reverse lock cam -- had to take mine off duing the rebuild and im not following the book on how to realign it.

PS what does it to -- the grooves dont align with anything that i can see.

Make sure your engine and gears are in nuetral, push the guide block up into the drive-shaft housing onto the upper shift-shaft rod. Your lower shift shaft should slide into it as long as the drive shaft is aligned. put a small bit of lube grease on both and if you aren't perfectly aligned, reach up and turn the flywheel by hand untill everything meshes. It should slide in easily. If not, something is not lined up. Possibly the water tube guide sleeve.

Budd, Also on your reverse lock cam. If you have power trim its not used. If you have manual it should engage a rod that locks to keep your outboard from kicking up in reverse.

Not to intrude on the thread, but I just ran into this issue yesterday.
I have power trim. What position should the cam be in during assembly?
Does it even need to be installed - or does it need to be there as a spacer?

I'd like to leave it out if it is not necessary.

Pep, the rod to engage the lock should be removed. If thats the case as it should be, then it doesn't matter what position the cam is in.
