Lower unit compatibility 15 hp 2000 vs 1974-92

I need a complete lower unit for a Johnson 15 hp 2000 Model J15RSSM

Can i use the former generation (1974-93) Johnson/Evinrude 9.9/15hp complete lower unit ?

The newer lower ( 93 and newer ) units with the anode in the casting have a double bearing set up above the pinion gear.--------Newer lower units from the mid 1980's also have 3 dogs on the gears as opposed to 2 dogs.-------So the newest lower units are better in design.----A 74 lower unit will bolt up to your motor.----Note ----a 2000 model 15 is more engine displacement than a 74 model and much more power.
