I have a 1973 Evinrude 65HP Triumph outboard. Model number 65373R. It wasn't drained properly and the lower unit cracked from the propeller end toward the front. I was told this unit isa Hydro-Mechanical unit that uses electronic shift, andan oil pump, and a newer late 75-77 mechanical shift unit utilized. In my research I can't find a 65hp lower unit from this year listed. So I'm asking what lower units are compatible, if any, and of what hp. Please take it easy on me as this is all Greek to me. Thank you for your time and help. Eric.

No it is not electric shift !!----Your location ?----A 3 cylinder lower unit up to 1988 can be fitted.-----You will need to re-arrange linkages ON THE MOTOR to use newer mechanical shift units.-----Yours shift to FORWARD with a down motion of the shift rod.----Newer ones shift to FORWARD with an up motion of the shift rod.----And 1972 was the last year for electric shift lower units on these outboards.

The hydro-mechanical unit like yours ( 3 cylinder ) was used in 1973 / 1974 and part way through the 1975 model year.

My Location is Springfield, Missouri. Doing research the photos of the units said to be same as mine had only the drive shaft and an electric wire coming out the top. Thats why i referred to the electric shift. However, thank you for setting mestraight

Post #3 tells you what units are a direct fit.----Later 3 cylinder units to 1988 require linkage changes.----I am too far away to assist.

I am not going to argue about what year was the last year of what, but everything I have found on ID-ing this motor says it's an Evinrude 65hp Triumph outboard produced in 1973. Designed for saltwater use. model number 65373R...and that came from right here on iboats when looking it up...just sayin'
