How do you take the lower unit apart...not off. Got it off, but there is a seem on the lower part of the lower unit. Does it come apart somehow. I dont see any bolts or anything holding it together.

thanks

Re: lower unit dissassembly

I am sure this is apples to oranges, but on my 55 LU I had a nut on top of the unit to remove and one behind the propeller. I had to acutally remove propeller and bearing cage to get to it.
I am sure some of the knowlegeable boatsman will get to you shortly.

Re: lower unit dissassembly

I assume this is a two part lower unit instead of a one part unit.

1 Remove water pump
2 Remove Bearing cage
3 Remove long hex bolt in front of the water pump cavity
4 Slowly rotate lower gear shift rod counterclockwise to avoid cutting the shift rod seal and unthread it from the shift cam.
5 Remove the nut and lockwasher inside the gearcase, then separate the lower and upper gearcase housings. Remove and discard the gasket.
