Lower unit for 2007 Mercury 40 ELPT EFI?

Hit a submerged log today while doing about 10mph.

It took a piece out of the bottom of the skeg.

I know I can run without it or put on one of those stainless replacement skegs, but I'd like to replace it with the OEM part.

Can anyone give me a guess of what it will cost me to do it myself?

And where online I could get one?

I can never find ANY part I need on that Mecury parts express site when I search.

** Also where is the best online site to get my aluminum prop repaired and also buy a new Mercury one too. I'll use the repaired one as a spare.

No one has ever had a lower unit housing replaced on a smaller late model Merc???

Or did it themselves?

Just trying to get an appx cost here!

I see in another post that they just had a shop weld the missing piece where their skeg was broken and it looked like new after. I'll go that route and find out from my dealer who can do this type of welding repair!

Great job. Picked up my boat from the welder who repaired my broken skeg today.

For others to know who will have a similar questions like I did on what to do when you've broken or taken a piece out of your skeg . . .

Bring it to a local welder. I didn't want to go for those after market bolt on skeg replacements because they cause extra drag being they will be wider than the original.

This welder charged me $125, but that included him also welding on 4 pal nuts on two of my new self centering rollers. I either had one stolen or it fell off last week, so I had him weld the ends.

That's a new prop in the pic below too which I dropped down a pitch to 12 for a better hole shot with 3 people on board. Sent the damaged one out to a shop on the web for a repair ($28 plus $10 return shipping). I'll use the repaired OEM one as a spare.
