Lower Unit Gear Oil Change .

Should I be running the motor and try to warm up the lower unit oil . before I change out the oil :confused:

Not necessary , the motor dosent actually warm the oil anyway.Take the plugs out,let it fully drain, pump in from the bottom SLOWLY untill it comes out the top.

Any real benefit to draining it overnight? I would assume that anything less than 2weeks of draining and it will never stop dripping. Most all the.crud should come out with the fast moving bulk of the.oil...

When it's 40 degrees F or cooler I make sure the replacement oil is warm so it pumps easier.

It will drip for a very long time.....no need to let it drain more than maybe an hour at most.
When i do engine and drive oil changes i warm the engine oil,pull the drain and fill plug on the drive and let it drip while i do the engine oil and filter.
By the time that is done the drive is ready to fill.
