Lower unit install...

I'm putting back together a lower unit for a '64 Evinrude 18hp and was wondering if and what sealant I should use when reassembling. I bought the lower unit seal kit for it, but it doesn't come with any gaskets and I really didn't see any mention of it in the repair manual. Should I use some silicone between the lower housing and the upper housing? What about on the screws/bolts? I was thinking maybe I should put a dab on them? The reason for the install is because the last owner didn't do it right and when I got the motor the lower unit was full of water and not lube! Don't want to have it fail on me because I didn't put the right sealant on it. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

I am suprised the seal kit did not come with gaskets. You may have to go to a marina and try and match the ones that were on the motor. Permatex is the choice to use with the gaskets. May have to look up on the internet for the gaskets if you cant find them at a marina
