Lower unit leak

I pulled the gear lube fill plug on my 20hp Chrysler from the 70's and more water than lube ran out. After filling with lube I have lube leaking from the water intakes with the engine laying on my bench. I searched previous posts and it seems I will be needing some or all of the seals replaced in the lower unit. Are the parts readily available? Can I do the job myself with no previous experience working on outboards? Should I plan on replacing all gear seals, water impeller, and any other seals as long as I'm taking things apart?

Re: Lower unit leak

If your motor is from 1978-82, you can get parts.
Impeller is available from any Merc dealer.

There is a seal kit available, Sierra part number 18-2639, under $20

Yes, might as well do it all and be done with it.

Might be a good idea to get a repair manual to walk you though it.
