Lower unit leaking

Hello all,

I hope someone can get me on the right track!! I have a 1985 Merury 25hp XD that leaks water into the lower unit oil. I recently had the lower unit off to work on the shift linkage, check the pinion, fwd and rev gears, and replace a prop bushing and when I reassembled it I filled with new lower unit oil and tested it with the fake lake (water muffs and a garden hose). Everything ran good and shifted, and the water pump was pumping strong. After running it a few minutes I stoped the motor, disconnected the fake lake and then noticed lower unit oil and water mix coming out of the lower unit vent hole. I think did somthing while working on it or during reassembly because it did not leak before I tore into it . What is wrong? Which seals or gaskets do I need to be looking at?

Thank you all for any help!!

Re: Lower unit leaking

Most common would be the driveshaft oil seals (the ones pressed into the water pump lower housing), followed by shift shaft seal and prop seal. But if you were leaking out the prop seal you'd see gear oil on the ground.
