Lower Unit Noob Questions

Ok I feel like a noob asking this. Here is what I assume, please tell me if I?m wrong. The Shift Cam in the lower unit, in the three positions the first or (highest point) is Forward, Second notch is neutral and lowest point being reverse. Is this Right?

I keep hearing a couple answers when putting my lower unit back together some say to have it in forward-- which it is now. And others say to have it in Neutral. Which one is it?

Last Question Can anyone explain the Reverse Cam Lock and how to install it. It has spines on it and not sure what direction is it suppose to point.

Budda, The forward most gear is for forward. So when the shift cam has the lowest spot pushing the ron that controls the shift dog, the motor is in forward.

Ok got it all installed but ran into an issue. After installing the motor the gears will not mesh. It trys in forward and does nothing in reverse. Anyone have any Ideas. Going to pull it back apart friday. So Confused. Thanks eveyone.
