You should use a marine specific lower unit gear oil, not automotive gearbox oil. Marine stuff has certain corrosion inhibitors in it. Good Luck!

An outboard gear oil is to be preferred because it contains additional inhibitors to guard against the effects of water ingress .... or so they tell us.

The Pennzoil 80W-90 Marine gear lube is sold at many auto parts stores.
I know Advance and Autozone both carry it.

About 6 bucks a quart..

Many people run the Mobile One GL-5 rated synthetic.
