Lower unit overhaul?

I am new to outboards and found water mixed with oil in my lower unit. I am getting a manual and going to attempt to replace the seals and gaskets and whatever else goes with the job.The motor is a 1961 evinrude 75 HP starflite III. Any sugestions or tips on making it easier and more successfull.

FIRST----- take it to a meck. And have them put a pressure, vacuum check on the lower unit. It’s probably seals but what else?. John
