When I bought my boat and took it out the lower unit was tight. I checked it after taking it out. The oil was old in it so I drained it and put new in. I put new screw seals in. Now the oil is milky. Is there an explanatin for why it would leak after using new oil?

Re: Lower Unit Question

OK I just did a pressure test on it. It will not hold air at all. I can hear the air coming out at from the part closest to the boat. Would this probably be the shifter seals? Would I have to buy the whole kit to replace it and the seals in the water pump or can I get them seperate?

Re: Lower Unit Question

the seals come in a kit, anywhere from $25 to $50 depending on the motor/year. i've got a similar question on another post, trying to find good online place to order from...my post is 73 Merc 500 lower unit seals. hopefully someone will answer us both.

This is the only site I have found for them. I am sure they are about as cheap as anywhere else.<br /> Seal Kits
