Ok so as you may be able to tell I am playing around with the lower unit for a 97 yamaha 30hp. I took it off in the fall as I had to replace the water pump and figure I would do it over the winte. I have it all back together, but I am wondering if something is messed up. I changed the Shift rod oil seal/boot so the shift rod came out.
Now here is the problem, or maybe its not a problem.
I have the lower unit off and if I press the shifter down all the the prop spins free both directions, same for the middle and same for the upper position.
The prop shaft is moving in and out alot. More than I have ever noticed before. I am wonderin gif somehitng is not right or if it all just need to be buttoned up to the motor. I thought though that when in forward or reverse even off themotor the prop should not spin one direction and should ratched the other direction or something like that.
Is something wrong here?
