If you (pump) fill the lower unit oil from the top instead of bottom, do you have to drain and refill from the bottom to the top.Or as long as it pores out from the top I will be good? I don't have a manual yet but heard you have to do it from the bottom.

You fill from the bottom. That way no air is trapped in the lower unit and you can completely fill the gearcase.

With the engine straight up and down fill from the bottom till it comes out the top then put the top plug in to keep it from leaking out, pull the pump and get the bottom screw in, a small amount will leak out but it is no big deal.

As Bonair said, doing it that way you know it is full and there si no air in it.

get a good pump that fits on the bottle and reaches to the bottom. drain out of the wind. get a pump with a screw on fitting for your motor.

I changed mine with substandard equipment inthe wind once. I needed 6 hands, and the result was worse than the Valdez.

also, just like hot dogs and rolls, the capacity of the LU does not match the size of the bottles of oil so you have to buy an extra just for a coupe ounces.
