lower unit reinstall 1996 40 HP 4 cylin 2 cycle

In the manual it says to apply RTV 587 to the "sealing area behind and on the side of the water pump housing"- I assume it is not the entire sealing area of the lower unit- just to the sides and behind the water pump cover?

if it was worded like that - i would assume the same .

thanks- unfortunately the manual is not too specific- it says apply to the area sealing area right behind the pump- the only sealing area behind the pump is on th eother side of the exhaust housing
