I'm installing a rebuilt lower unit in my 1996 115 2stroke Yamaha. I don't know where the shifter was when the lower unit was removed. I want to put it in with my shifter in "forward" ,so if needed I can turn the prop to align the splines. Which direction do I turn the shift shaft on the lower unit to assure the lower unit is shifted to "forward"?
If my thinking is in error please help me out.
Thanks for your help

Most put both in neutral when stabbing the lower back in.

If you really want to have it in forward then shift it into gear and then rotate drive shaft clockwise and see which direction prop turns to see what gear you have put it into.
Not hard to figure it out

Neutral is where you want to be, both lower unit and control, for re-assembly....but if you want the lower unit in forward, then shift it until the prop shaft turns clockwise....
