Lower unit removal, 87 cobra 5.0

1987 5.0 cobra outdrive,

Want to pull off my lower unit and inspect and maybe out in a new shift shaft.
Question is, when the lower end is removed is it very difficult to reassemble. Does the shift cable have to removed and readjusted when put back together?
Is this a project that can be done very fast ( like a outboard drop out and put back in about a hour?), or am i going to be opening a can of worms when i do this???

To service the shift cable ,you need to remove the whole drive.unhook the rams, 6 mounting nuts, and pull straight back.
