Re: Lower Unit Removal Problems

Use a 163 degree temp stik to check.Run for at least 5 minutes on hose before testing and better still to bring temp stik along with you on first water test.

Did the waterpump you changed out have 3 or 6 flutes on the impeller?Just curious ,as my 96' 70 was superceded from a 3 flute to a 6 flute impeller(as per service bulliten) and it also included changing to a different spring for the water relief on the T/stat assy.My engines changes also included doing away with the tell/tale restrictor and just using a grommet and the 3/8 hose for the tell/tale.I believe the reason for this cahnge was to accomodate the higher output of the superceded waterpump impeller. This change may not have effected your engines year model.Just wondering.

If you have a nearby reputable dealer ,they should have one.If not ,try a welding supply house or auto parts store. If the 163 degree stik melts or liquifies on the head or block surface ,the engine is overheating.I got my temp stik from local John/Rude dealer.

No 163 temp sticks around here(Dealers, auto,) A welding shop has 150 and 175 no 163. What is the temp I should be running at ?
