I got my 19' center console running today after a motor transplant...it is a 1988 mid and lower and a 1976 200 powerhead...i think i'm going to name it frankenstein (parts from this one and that one to get it going)...i ran it for about 10 minutes this morning it ran great top speed of 40 mph i'm working on getting my gauges ordered so i'll know what kind of RPMs i'm turning...
I do have one question, when the lower unit is out of the water in neutral you can spin the prop by hand and it makes a deep roaring sound (doesnt matter which way you spin it), i'm pretty mechanically inclined and it sounds like a bearing to me..gear oil was clean and magnet had small amount tiny metal on it, looked like small fuzz...i couldnt hear the noise or feel any vibration today while running, and the prop shaft has very little up and down or side to side movement...should i start taking it apart ??
how hard is it to tear into these lower units ?? i've rebuilt a couple of outboards and replaced some seals in lower units but never taken one apart...i do have my manual..any special tools needed for the job besides snap ring pliers and a slide hammer ?? thanks for any help i really appreciate it..
