I have a mercury 150 black max. How hard would it be to replace the seals? I have done this on small outboards but nothing of this size. Thanks

Ladies,I kind of figured that...tell me more. is the linkage a slip over? How much time would it take--not you,but me.....How hard is it to get the 2 units apart, once you got the nuts off? I am getting a little water in my oil-would you replace all the seals or just the main gasket between the units and the prop seal?--Hey what part of Northern mi.are you from---across the bridge? thanks Blue

The shift linkage is splined if thats what you mean, if your dropping the unit I would change the 2 w/pump hsg. seals and gaskets along with the o-ring for sure if possable pressure test to see if the shift shaft seal is leaking if you change the shift shaft seal you must not let the shaft come up when removing the retainer as the shift cam will fall off and the unit will have to come apart to reinstall it.
I'm 30 miles south of the bridge--Bob

The unit has 1 nut in the front and 2 on the sides facing up, 2 under the cavition plate facing down, the tou will have to remove the trim tab as they hide 1 under it, (mark the tab for reinstallion)then the unit should drop down

Re: lower unit seal replacement

Thanks Ladies, sounds like I might have to get back to You. I have a manual on order--the boy's here want $110.00 for the seal kit and $285 for a 3hour job. I'm ready to put in more than 3 hours or what ever it takes for that kind of money.....just sounds a little high to me. I had a guy put in a impallar last year and it cost about $100. I was hoping You, were from across the bridge,as i go up 3 or 4 times a year to fish lake trout out of Marquette, and sometimes need someone to go with me.......Blue
