I have a 1990 30hp Evinrude on my pontoon boat. I noticed that my lower unit oil is milkier than normal. I first noticed this when I did my mid season lower unit oil change in July. I replaced the seals on the drain and the fill ports. I refilled with new fluid and hoped it would come out clean in the fall. The oil came out milky in the fall. I filled with new oil and put the boat away. I am getting ready to take the boat our and I am deciding on how to move forward with it. I will pull the lower unit myself as I intended on replacing the water pump this spring. Should I attempt to replace the seals or would I be better of bringing the lower unit to a marina? Are there special tools to take the seals out of these lower units? Are there parts that can break or need replacing during the job?
