lower unit seals

hello,i am replacing the lower seals on my 84 35hp johnson.what is the easyiest way to remove the seal on the lower unit.the two that are back to back.do i drill small holes it?i got the ones behind the prop.now i am doing the ones behind the water pump.the two i got was a pain in the a@#...what do you do?thanks

I take the gearcase apart. If you're going to reseal it, you can't ignore the O-ring that seals the shift shaft. You can't replace that without taking it almost completely apart. That O-ring is at least as likely to leak as the seals, probably more so.

are you talking about taking the gears apart?i dont have the tools or the know how!and i cant afford to mess it up so i was just doing the seals that i can get to with out tearing in to the unit.
