Moving on to the lower unit now. Got it removed, now what should I look for, as far as parts to be replaced, preventative maintenance, etc. Removed the impeller housing off the top of drive shaft but cannot slip impeller off the end of shaft. Here's a couple pics.

Any advice would be great! :joyous:

there's a small oring on the top of the d/s, did you remove it?

a small oring should be in that groove, the oring is to help prevent water getting up into the crankshaft/d/s spline area and causing rust/corrosion problems, your w/p rebuild kit should have one and if not be sure to get one.

Are you saying you can work the impeller up to the end of the d/s and it won't come the remainder of the way off, or you can't get the impeller to move up the shaft at all?

This shaft is inserted in the top of the housing. IMAG0662.jpgIMAG0663.jpg It's approx 3" tall and 1" in dia w/orings on each end. That part isn't shown, that I can see, on the schematic. Plus, water pump kit 18-3377 doesn't look like it comes with the drive shaft oring.:confused::confused:

It looks like maybe I should slide the driveshaft up and out and slide impeller off the bottom?? Is that right?

OK, I got everything figured out. I think. I'm gonna order wp kit, 6 screws to hold the gearcase together, (they were in bad shape) and an oring for top of drive shaft. I also would like to replace the oring/gasket for the gearcase, but Marine engine.com gearcase parts list for model # 18202r, shows #26 is unavailable. Any ideas? Only other question is, what direction does impeller turn? CCW? Not quite sure for replacement. Thanks a lot!!

Here's some pics of my torn apart lower unit and gearcase. If anything doesn't look good or needs cleaned, lubed, greased etc, please let me know. Here's the bottom of lower unit, above gearcase.

Here's the gearcase cover, very bottom. The oring/gasket that goes around the edge of this cover, I'd like to replace, but can't find part.

Cleaned everything up. Gonna order parts and put back together. Does everything look OK?
