83 Evinrude 50 hp -
Just replaced impellar and housing. Now the lower unit is a bit out of square on reinstall. Level and all, and seems to be flush, but now is shifted to left about 1/16th of an inch. Is this trouble?

Thanks

Jason

Sure sounds like something is not lined up.
Get a ser. manual and be sure you followed the
proper procedures. They are available at the library,NAPA,the tab at the top of this page,amazon.com,ebay,etc.
Good luck.

Re: Lower unit shifted against rest of motor

Already have the manual. That's how I got this far. lol.

Followed everything to the letter.

Should I pull it back off and try to reset it?
When I put it back on, the last inch or so felt spongy. Does that indicate I am off-line with a seal or something? Or is that normal?

Thanks for the help.

Jason

Tried that (twice) to no avail. Can't hold it and tighten screws. Can't walk and chew gum sometimes though, so maybe I'll try again.

From that answer, it doesn't sound too serious.

Thanks, all

Jason

I would drop the L.U. and check the alignment of the water tube & make sure you aren't pushing it into the grommet in the pump housing. You might be cutting into the grommet (spongy feel) and this could block your water flow.

Good call, squeakit.

I was thinking that too. I guess I am just getting lazy with having to muscle that l/u around again.

Oh well. Onward and upward - thanks for the thought.

Jason
